Winston Maynard Lopez, the Formulator of the Equinox product line of Natural Equine Supplements consisting of Haemequine, Acceleration Plus, Ondeebit, Untie Muscle Ease, Run Free & Easy and Breathe Free & Easy was born on the island of Trinidad & Tobago in the West Indies.
Winston is the son of a pharmacist, Rupert Owen Lopez (deceased). He spent his childhood years under the tutelage of his father learning the scientific and technical aspects of compounding syrups, salves and other potent forms of medications.
From 1960 to 1967 Winston was employed as a Laboratory Technician in the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at the Central Experimental Station in Trinidad. During this tenure of service he was fortunate to have benefited from the instructional teaching of Veterinarians such as Dr. Holman Williams, Dr. Leonard Butcher (Tuskergee University), Dr. Robert Leonard and Senior Technician Mr. E. C. Clyde Parris.
Winston emigrated to Canada in 1967 to attend the British Columbia Institute of Technology in Vancouver, BC and upon graduation he attended Simon Fraser University. Winston is a citizen of Canada and resides in the City of Richmond.
Winston has been conducting exclusive research in natural equine supplementation for the past fifteen years. The recent corporate focus has been on the preperation of a viable pre-race formulae to assist trainers in ensuring that their horses put out their best efforts during the race or event.
Haemequine is a natural equine supplement developed to support horses affected by Exercise Induced Pulmonary Haemorrhaging (EIPH), commonly referred to as bleeding.
The incidence of EIPH has long been a major challenge within the equine industry. Over the years, many champion horses have seen their careers shortened due to this condition. Haemequine was formulated to address this ongoing issue through a natural, holistic approach.
The theoretical foundation behind Haemequine is extensive and highly technical. However, its effectiveness is clear—since its introduction in 1995, the product has demonstrated a success rate of over 85% in supporting horses affected by EIPH.
The first documented success with Haemequine occurred in 1995 in Kentucky, USA. Two high-value mares, previously unresponsive to all known bleeding treatments, were placed on Haemequine with owner consent. After approximately seventeen days of supplementation, both horses returned to racing and won without any signs of bleeding. This breakthrough led to widespread adoption among trainers.
The name Haemequine is derived from the medical terms haemoglobin and haematopoietic. The formulation was developed using strict ingredient parameters and exclusively natural components, following a holistic philosophy.
This approach resulted in several key benefits for both horses and industry professionals:
Field Trial – Part I (May 31, 1995 to October 31, 1995)
Thirty actively racing thoroughbred horses of varying ages and sexes were selected for the initial trial. All horses were under the care of qualified trainers and veterinarians and were classified as extreme bleeders that had failed to respond to modern bleeding medications.
Throughout the trial, the horses remained in full training and received the recommended daily dosage of Haemequine. After a 28-day supplementation period, each horse was trained or raced over five furlongs at maximum speed. All horses were scoped afterward and found to be negative for EIPH.
Field Trial – Part II
A second group of twenty talented thoroughbred horses—known for high expectations but poor race performance—were fed half the recommended daily dosage of Haemequine.
After ten days, trainers observed increased energy, improved appetite, stronger blood counts, and healthier, glossier coats
After twenty-one days, performance levels improved significantly, with over 70% of the horses reaching the winner’s circle
In conclusion, the Equinox Group of Companies appreciates the opportunity to present Haemequine to the equine industry. This natural supplement represents a reliable, proven option for supporting respiratory health, performance, and longevity in equine athletes.
Just as higher-octane fuel and quality oil additives improve vehicle performance, natural supplementation enhances a horse’s power, stamina, and overall health. In the equine industry, proper supplementation helps achieve and maintain a higher level of performance and wellness over a longer period of time.
High-performance horses face significant physical stress, particularly from Exercise Induced Pulmonary Haemorrhaging (EIPH) and lactic acid buildup. Haemequine is designed to aid recovery in horses affected by EIPH and has established a strong track record in supporting equine respiratory health.
During intense exertion, lactic acid builds up and can cause horses to slow down at critical moments. Acceleration Plus helps neutralize lactic acid buildup during events, reducing the risk of lactosis and supporting stronger finishes and improved endurance.
OnDeeBit addresses hyper-proteinemia, a condition caused by excessive protein use as an energy source in competing horses. It ensures energy is derived efficiently from fats first, then carbohydrates, and finally protein—maximizing performance while preserving muscle health.
When horses perform below expectations due to nutritional deficiencies, the financial burden ultimately falls on the owner. Strategic supplementation tailored to each horse’s needs helps prevent sub-par performance and protects both health and long-term investment.
The financial responsibility lies with the owner. Winning brings rewards such as profits, prestige, and longevity in the sport, while consistent losses lead to frustration and early exit. Proper supplementation plays a vital role in sustaining success.
Soundness, excellent conditioning, expert handling, and—most importantly— healthy, energy-charged, non-bleeding horses. Regular supplementation ensures adequate reserves of essential nutrients that work synergistically to support peak performance.
Healthier horses perform better, earn more, and retain higher claiming value. Owners benefit twice—through increased earnings per start and appreciating horse value. Simply put: healthier horses win more money.
